UV lights can sometimes be close to a necessity when it comes to algae buildup in air conditioners nowadays. Algae buildup is a regular occurrence, and all air conditioning systems produce algae as a byproduct of having constant water accumulation in the drain pan. Sometimes if the algae buildup is becoming frequently problematic than we recommend the installation of a UV light. The UV light will mitigate the algae buildup significantly and as a result cause less algae clogging your drain line.
Should you install a UV Light?
Criteria
Although UV lights can be beneficial to almost all air conditioning systems by mitigating the amount of algae buildup, it’s not always necessary. If you are someone who likes to keep your West Palm Beach home at 78-80 degrees Fahrenheit, your system won’t be used as much as someone who keeps their home at 68 degrees, causing far less algae buildup.
Prevent Mold growth
UV lights are also used for preventing mold growth on the evaporator coil. Mold can become a significant problem in your home especially if your system has mold growing on, in, or around your air conditioner, Reyes AC highly recommends installing a UV light.
Cleaner air
Ultraviolet lights installed in your air conditioning system also cleans the air around the light. The UV light can even kill airborne bacteria, and air that has been contaminated with agents such as tobacco smoke.
